Euthanasia Essay: Mercy Killing or Murder


‘Euthanasia’  is  simply  a Greek   word   meaning  ‘good death ‘.Literally translate into English it mean  Mercy Killing. In this case death is caused by either by passive or active euthanasia.
         
          Passive method involves  deliberate  withdrawal of life support systems so that patient is allowed naturally. Active  euthanasia is caused by the use of  lethal drugs and it is the most controversial. For   years  mercy killing has  been the subject of  fierce  debate in many countries. Doctors  around the world are not allowed  to assist their  patient to die. The Netherland was first country to legalize  Euthanasia in 2002. Mercy Killing is Legalized in a Few European  countries and few states of America. In Asia ,Thailand is only country to permits mercy Killing.


          In India a sort of beginning was made in 1994  when the Supreme Court in a verdict declare that  attempted suicide is not a crime. But in 1996 Five judge Bench declared an attempt to suicide is  illegal .In  a landmark judgement in 2011,the Supreme Court Legalized Passive euthanasia  giving thousands of patients living a vegetative State  all  over county  their right to have artificial   life   support Systems. The  verdict clearing the way for  passive  mercy killing  is a big leap  forward. Now it is up to Government to make law on subject.
